When the Cinematograph Enquiry Committee (1927) came to Lahore, it interviewed many people. One of them was Lala Lajpat Rai. the Lion of the Punjab. The chairman tried to convince him that the knowledge about the British Empire was important to Indians. Lalaji fearlessly interrupted him and replied that he had no use for the Empire at all! About one year after this, the brave freedom fighter died of lathi injuries sustained during a non-violent protest against the Simon Commission. Bhagat Singh and his fellow revolutionaries avenged his death a few years later.

Everybody knows that Lata's first playback Hindi song was 'paa laagooN kar joree re'. But most people don't know who it was picturized on. I found out when I received the latest issue (174) of Listeners' Bulletin published by Har Mandir Singh "Hamraaz".

He started publishing it in 1971, almost 10 years before the first Geet Kosh was published! It has articles on unknown film people, new info about films and songs, book reviews, obituaries etc. As usual, one can subscribe to it by going to his website.

This is an example of Call and Response prevalent in many American churches. This is the earliest example that I have heard. The lead singer says, Khush raho ai alla vaalo, and the chorus responds with, jaavo fee amaanillah. Also there is ghunghroo type instrument playing.
