I am not sure Ms Alison Arnold failed to mention it but Anil BIswas also has a claim.
Kaustubh Pingle wrote in response to my first post
"HIREN BOSE said in a Filmfare issue of 1954 that Anil Biswas did it for the first time for "Dharam Ki Devi", where he was the singer and Kumar was the actor!
I can believe him because HB was the First person to import a playback machine in India in 1939."
I have also read this claim elsewhere.
